There's been some big moves with these guys since the start of 2001.
They lost their monopoly of the Exchanges, the internet IS now a
method of comms choice for millions, skype phones are on the way in,
theres lots of competitors against BT.
But the truth is, they still rule the roost. They overcharge (for
example) a leased line. This is a connection between two points using
their cabling infrastructure.
For a connection between Stoke on Trent and Birmingham they charge an
extortionate amount of money - £18000.00 per year. And whats more -
another £20000.00 for installing the equipment (worth at most £3000.00
including the kit).
So, feed them with your money - keep them afloat even longer and let
them continue to fix UK pricing of many services (most providers use the
BT backbone) and watch their profits soar - as they are right now here
in 2006.
Go on - use BT - you know it makes sense.
